Since its launch in 1996, the 145 has been sold to over 25 different airlines with major orders in the United States and Switzerland. Not shy with performance, the 145 has a range of 2445km with its standard passenger configuration of 50 people. Variants of the ERJ 145 include the BRJ 145ER or extended range. Range of the XR is increased 450 nautical miles and the plane boasts a takeoff weight of 9% more than the 145.

Initial work on the concept for the 145 began in the late 80's in response to the demand for the 50 passenger aircraft segment. With the design finalized in 1991, the ERJ took its first flight On August 11, 1995. With the rising demand for planes in this market segment, Embraer projects sales of the ERJ 145 to continue to grow.
